Install Telnet Client from command prompt

Note: you should be a sys admin to add this feature to the server

Open the command prompt and run    pkgmgr /iu:”TelnetClient”

This should install TelnetClient on the system.

To test Telnet open the command prompt and type

Telnet ip port 

ip can be FQDN too. If the connection is successfull established you will get a blank screen with Telnet cmd window.

for windows 7

Windows Vista and Windows 7 you may need to enable telnet first:

  • Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs;
  • Under Programs and features, click Turn Windows features on or off;
  • Tick off both Telnet Client and Telnet Server;
  • Click OK.
